How long does it take to get approved for ABA therapy?
How long it takes to get approved for ABA therapy depends on your plan and on how fast the paperwork comes together. No one can honestly promise a date in advance.
The steps run in a set order. Private plans usually want a diagnosis and a prescription from a physician or psychologist. A BCBA assesses your child and writes a treatment plan. Then the provider sends an approval request with the plan and assessment, and a reviewer decides. With Health First Colorado, an approval lasts up to six months before the provider has to ask again. Missing documents cause most delays, so bring past evaluations and your child’s IEP. We have no waitlist, and most families start within two weeks of approval.
