What does an in-home ABA therapist do?

An in-home ABA therapist, usually a Registered Behavior Technician, comes to your house and teaches your child during ordinary parts of the day like snacks, play, getting dressed, bath time and bedtime.

The therapist follows a plan written by a BCBA and uses the toys and treats your child already likes. Common goals at home include asking for things, toilet training, playing with brothers and sisters, and calming down after a change in plans. The therapist records data at every visit. The BCBA reviews it, drops goals that aren’t working, and coaches you so the same approach carries through the week. An adult also has to be home for every session.
