What does an ABA do in schools?
An ABA therapist in schools works next to your child in class, helping with routines, switching activities, finishing work and getting along with classmates.
The BCBA usually starts by watching a school day to see the demands and the help already in place. Then a technician supports your child during lessons and at recess, and with your permission, data goes to the teacher and the IEP team. School-based ABA sits next to the IEP and doesn’t replace it. A private provider can’t just walk in. Colorado law requires every district to have a policy for outside providers. In Aurora Public Schools, the IEP or 504 team decides whether treatment has to happen at school, and you can appeal a no.
