At what age is ABA most effective?

The age when ABA is most effective is usually earlier rather than later, during the toddler and preschool years, when children pick up new skills quickly and have more time to practice before kindergarten.

That doesn’t mean there’s a cutoff. Older children and teens still make progress. Their goals shift toward conversation, independence and handling school. Doctors are asked to screen for autism at the 18- and 24-month checkups, so start then if something seems off. If your child is under 3, anyone can refer them to Early Intervention Colorado. From 3 to 5, Aurora Public Schools and Cherry Creek run free Child Find evaluations. You can work on a medical diagnosis at the same time.
